Will my employer pay for my Eye Test

Working safely with display screen equipment

There is a duty on employers to arrange and pay for eye tests for those workers who are users of ‘display screen equipment’ and who ask for an eye test. The most common way to do this is to let the employee arrange their own eye test and submit a receipt as an expense claim.

If an individual then is prescribed glasses for display screen equipment use only, then the employer has to provide glasses. Often this is done by agreeing a contribution equivalent to the cost of a basic pair of glasses, which the individual can then put towards the cost of their chosen pair.
